Nagano: Snow Monkey Park, Soba Lunch, and Shibu Onsen Tour — half a day, and the only one with a bath in it

4.90 · 9 REVIEWS ON GETYOURGUIDE · SHIBS TOURS

A four-hour run from Nagano: the park, a soba lunch in Shibu Onsen and entry to one of the village’s public baths, with a towel to borrow.

FOR
Anyone with half a day rather than a whole one, and anyone who wants to actually get into an onsen rather than walk past one.
NOT FOR
Solo travelers — the operator sets a two-person minimum — wheelchair users, babies under one, and anyone over 150 kg.
THE CATCH
Nine reviews so far, which is not enough for the platform to publish sub-scores. There is no crowd to read here yet.

What the $128 (≈¥20,000) buys — and what it doesn’t

Entry included

Both lists are the operator’s own.

INCLUDED

  • Air-conditioned vehicle
  • Free shuttle service – Pick-up and drop-off support from designated areas
  • Soba lunch in Shibu Onsen – Enjoy freshly made buckwheat noodles and local Nagano specialties at a traditional restaurant
  • Admission fee (Snow Monkey Park) – Entry ticket to see the famous Japanese macaques relaxing in natural hot springs
  • Onsen entrance fee – Access to one of Shibu Onsen’s historic public baths for an authentic hot spring experience
  • Small onsen towel (rental) – Provided for use at the public bath and collected back after the tour

NOT INCLUDED

  • Snacks & apple pie – Light snacks and a sweet stop at Enza Café to enjoy its famous homemade apple pie
  • Any guarantee the monkeys come down — park staff work to attract the monkeys during opening hours, but the monkeys may not show up at all on certain days
THE SAME DAY ON YOUR OWN

¥5,100 (≈$33) by train or ¥6,800 (≈$44) by express bus from Nagano Station, both including the ¥800 (≈$5.1) entry and the return — the park’s own totals. What that does not buy is the guide, the lunch or anything else on the list to the left.

The stops are published; the driving is not

3 pickup points, no road published

This operator prints an hour against each destination and not one minute between them. That is not an omission to complain about — it is the shape of the product, and the pickup list is the reason.

What the scores say — three numbers, not one star

No sub-scores yet

GetYourGuide publishes the overall score across every review, and sub-scores once a listing has enough of them. Shown on a 4.0–5.0 scale so they can be told apart.

WHY THE SCALES ARE MISSINGGetYourGuide publishes no guide / transport / value sub-scores for this tour. They appear only once a listing has enough reviews; with 9, the platform shows the overall score alone. We do not draw scales from numbers that do not exist.

«What a delightful day we had with Umut and Rosa as our guides! We saw so many monkeys and their babies in the park, then had delicious soba at a local place they knew about in the small town of Shibu Onsen. After lunch experienced a local bath in town. Perfect time for our family.»

«We had such a great experience on our snow monkey tour! Umut was a fantastic guide and did everything possible to make sure we had a good time. When the monkeys were not at the park in the morning, he figured out how to get us back to the park quickly when the monkeys showed up! It was really special to see the animals»

«It was our best experience in Japan so far. I can only recommend booking this tour with the company. The guide was great!»
5 ★Dominic · Germany · May 22, 2026
«Our guide was phenomenal, she was knowledgeable, friendly and very accommodating. We enjoyed the walk to the Monkey Park as our tour guide shared fun facts about Japan and we were able to take multiple pictures of the monkey’s. Lunch was special as the restaurant owner made fresh noodles for the ramen soup. And, we end»

Please note that the…

Please note that the Snow Monkey Park is not a zoo — the monkeys live freely in the mountains and come to the hot spring area naturally. Their appearance depends on weather, temperature, and season. During September, October, and November, the number of monkeys near the hot spring may be limited

06

Is it worth it? And 4 more honest answers

Is the $128 (≈¥20,000) tour worth it?

Against ¥5,100–6,800 (≈$33–44) for the same journey alone, it buys air-conditioned vehicle, free shuttle service – pick-up and drop-off support from designated areas, soba lunch in shibu onsen – enjoy freshly made buckwheat noodles and local nagano specialties at a traditional restaurant. 9 reviewers rate it 4.90.

How much time is spent with the monkeys?

The operator does not publish a segment breakdown for this tour, so this page does not state one.

Is the park entry included?

Yes — the ¥800 (≈$5.1) adult ticket is in the price.

Are the monkeys guaranteed?

No. Park staff work to attract the monkeys during opening hours, but the monkeys may not show up at all on certain days; appearances are particularly sporadic in autumn — no operator and no price changes that.

Are the reviews on this page representative?

There are only 9 reviews in total, which is too few to read a crowd from. Treat them as 9 people.

If the shape of the day suits you, this is where to book it — live dates and the operator’s own calendar, at the price above.
